Information
The Dutch Eredivisie consists of 18 teams and operates on a double round-robin system (each team plays against every other team twice, once at home and once away). In each match, the winner receives 3 points, the loser receives 0 points, and a draw earns both teams 1 point each. At the end of the season, teams are ranked based on their total points; in case of a tie in points, ranking is determined by goal difference, followed by the number of goals scored, with the teams ranked higher based on their head-to-head record. If teams have the same number of points, additional playoff matches will be held to determine the final rankings. The league’s top-ranked team will advance to the group stage of next season’s UEFA Champions League, the second-place team will compete in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds, the third-place team will take part in the Europa League qualifying rounds, and teams finishing from fourth through seventh place will participate in the Europa League play-offs. The Dutch Cup champion will advance to the UEFA Europa League play-offs for the upcoming season; if the Dutch Cup champion has already secured a spot in European competitions through the league standings, then lower-ranked European competition spots will be passed down according to league position. In addition, the bottom two teams in the Eredivisie are directly relegated to the Eerste Divisie, while the third-from-bottom team will face off against the third-place team in the Eerste Divisie in a promotion/relegation playoff to earn a spot in next season’s Eredivisie.
