Information
The Portuguese Super League consists of 18 teams and operates on a double round-robin format (each team plays against every other team twice, once at home and once away). The point system for each match is as follows: the winner receives 3 points, the loser receives 0 points, and a draw earns both teams 1 point each. At the end of the season, teams are ranked based on their accumulated points.
If two or more teams have the same number of points, their rankings will be determined in the following order:
a) Points earned in head-to-head matches
b) Goal difference in head-to-head matches
c) Goal difference overall
d) Number of wins
e) Total goals scored
The top two teams in the league qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League; the third-place team advances to the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds; the fourth-place team advances to the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds; and the fifth-place team qualifies for the UEFA Europa Conference League (the Portuguese Cup champion earns a spot in next season’s UEFA Europa League). The third-from-last place team participates in a relegation playoff, while the two teams at the bottom of the table will be relegated to the First Division for the upcoming season.
